Carbon nanotubes are seamless tubes of graphite sheets
with nano-sized diameter, including
single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) and multi wall
carbon nanotubes (MWNT). The ends of some nanotubes are
open, the others are closed with full fullerene caps.
Carbon nanotubes
are named as “the king of nano materials”. Due to the sheet
direction and diameters, it may be either metallic or
semiconducting. Comparing with all kinds of nature materials,
carbon nanotubes have the highest theory strength, which are more
than 100 times that of steel, although their specific gravity are
only one sixth that of the latter. Carbon nanotubes have special
advantages in the field of shielding and absorbing electromagnetic
radiation, field emission, thermal conducting,
hydrogen storing, adsorbing, catalyzing, etc.
